This year is already starting out as a great one! We look forward to a fun and rewarding competition season with our new and returning families.
August:
Academy Competition Dance Camp – Camp was fantastic! The dancers really enjoyed themselves and learned their dances very quickly. Thank you for coming early and staying late. That was a huge help in finishing choreography.
Academy annual picnic – Thank you those of you who came and danced! As always, it was a great time.
Dance session – Classes have started out fantastic!
1.Due to the number of students, and teacher recommendation we are adding an Intermediate 1 class. There will be an Intermediate 1A and an Intermediate 1B. They will take place at the same time on Tuesday evenings in separate rooms. Please be sure to pick up your envelope at the front desk with details on where you child will be.
2.The Academy will be closed on Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day.
3.Ballet class looked fantastic with everyone in the appropriate attire! Remember attire is black leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes and hair in a bun.
Solo costumes – August 31
1.If you have not had a chance to speak with Suzanne about costumes please make an appointment to do so.
2.An extension date to Friday, September 10 has been given to get costume sketches to Wanda.
September:
TBD Dance practice – September 3
1.Whitney and Shelby will teach the choreography on Friday, September 3 from 5:00-6:30pm.
2.The competition practice time will be on Thursday’s at 5:00 in the tower room.
Extra September Saturday practice – September 4
1.We will not have practice this Saturday. Enjoy your holiday weekend!
Solo Choreography complete – September 15
1.Check with your solo choreographer to be sure you are on the same page. Solo’s are to be finished by Wednesday, September 15.
October:
Extra October Saturday Practice – October 2
1.Plan for rehearsal on this Saturday. Schedule will be released next week.
Solo Showcase – October 3
1.Solos and duets will perform their dances in full costume and make-up.
2.Showcase will take place at the Academy at 3:00pm.
3.Non-soloists are encouraged to come watch and cheer on their fellow teammates.
Bonkers night – October 8
1.Tina Greim is heading this.
Parade Practices – October 7, 14 and 21
1.Practices will be 5:30-6:30. In the team policies it says 5:30-7 but that is a typo.
2.Competition classes will still take place but will be 15 minutes on these nights. Watch for schedule.
Homecoming Parade – October 23
1.Time is TBD. Plan on 8:00am arrival time for parade but that is subject to change.
2.All competition students will march in the parade.
Halloween spirit Attire – October 28
1.Plan to send the dancers in fun Halloween costumes or attire! Be sure they are not distracting and are forgiving to movement and dancing. Have fun and be creative with this.
2.Awards will be given for the most creative, most elaborate and any other award teachers feel is appropriate. Teachers will vote and awards will be given that night.
3.Spirit nights are a fun way to celebrate while dancing. They are not required.
NATIONAL COMPETITION CHANGE:
1.Please note due to CPS High School Graduation Hall of Fame Dance Challenge has been moved to May 7-8 and will be in St Louis at the Gateway Center. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Apparel:
1.Warm-ups
a.Warm up sizes will be here next Thursday. Please have your child try on the jacket and pants and sign up for what size you want to order.
b.You will need to indicate if you would like your child’s first or last name on the front of the jacket.
c.Warm-ups will be ordered September 15 and should arrive before the October booster meeting.
2.T-Shirts
a.Suzanne has been in contact with flying cow. Looks as if cost will be similar to last year.
b.There will be 2 styles of shirts with the same design to choose from.
3.Academy leotard-Cost for leotards is $50. Sign up tonight if you need a new one. These will be ordered on September 15. 50% is due at the time of ordering.
4.Tops/Shorts-Suzanne is working with flying cow on designs for these.
Reminders:
1.Make hotel reservations for all dance competitions.
2.$400 should be in your booster account.
3.September 11 car wash is at Andy’s Frozen Custard from 12-2. Sign-up sheet is at the front counter.
4.Posters are needed for Breakfast with Santa (Dec 4), Spaghetti Dinner (Sept 9), Bonkers (Oct 8) and Scrap-booking Crop (Nov 5/6).
5.Showcase on January 8 is in Moberly.
6.Bag Check will be held in November. 2009-10 bag check list is attached (items are subject to change). More information to come on this.
7.If you need shoes for class please have them ordered by the 14th of each month. Orders will be placed on the 15th. 50% is due at the time of ordering.
